Alice In Wonderland, Katie Violet Richards

Interview with Katie Violet Richards, on her Alice in Wonderland inspired film.

Discussing her surreal video created in lockdown.

Your video is super dream-like, does this reflect a part of how you experienced the past year?

Yes that was part of the idea for the video, for me lockdown felt like I had fallen down a rabbit hole and entered an alternate reality such as wonderland. This was because I felt like reality had been shifted so much and it is a new world for us all to discover like Alice from wonderland. I wanted to play with the sense of how time is warped during 2020/21.

Was there any specific inspiration for the piece?

My main inspiration was wonderland and the journey to an unfamiliar world, I played with time lapse to confuse the viewers of time and further create a dizzying / hypnotic atmosphere.

What are you looking forward to after ~all this is maybe over~?

I’m mainly looking forward to being able to go out and interact with different groups of people as many people inspire me and I can grow creatively, I’m also looking forward to being back into Brit and being able to physically be back into the classroom so I can interact and collaborate with other artists.

The soundtrack fits so well with this feeling of being somewhere both familiar and otherworldly. How did you choose the song?

I chose the song army dreamers by Kate bush, I did this because in the song it referenced to die to a lack of education, this highlighted how many people feel like they have lost education and feel option less.
